portrait Biography

Bilyana Dimitrova was born in Sofia, Bulgaria. She immigrated to the United States with her parents, in 1984. She was first introduced to Fine Art Photography while studying to be a painter, at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for Music, Art and the Performing Arts, in New York City. She decided to pursue photography and began to study under the guidance of renowned photographers Stephen Shore and Larry Fink at Bard College, NY. While at Bard College, she began to develop her interest in documenting how people personalize their living environments. This interest continues to be the driving force behind her personal projects.

Bilyana Dimitrova was introduced to the field of Architectural Photography when she made the acquaintance of Peter Aaron, of Esto Photographics, Inc. Peter Aaron's photographs of residential interiors served as a model for how her Fine Art Photography could function in a commercial context. To better prepare herself for a career in Architectural Photography, Bilyana Dimitrova began to seek out the most accomplished photographers in the field. She started working as a photography assistant for Peter Aaron, David Sundberg and Jeff Goldberg, of Esto Photographics, Inc, as well as for Scott Frances, Michael Moran and Paul Warchol.

Currently residing in the New York Metropolitan area, Bilyana receives commissions as an architectural photographer and is the photo editor for Metropolis magazine. Her schedule at the magazine is such that it allows her to continue her active career as a photographer.
